This is what I\u2019ve learned the hard way: scuffed upholstery, one table that got soaked and never lost the smell, and a couple of bad backs. In order: car, stairs, public transport, hotels, and the things that wreck tables without you noticing.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. In the car<\/h2><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Never loose in the boot.<\/strong> Every hard brake is a knock on a corner. Bag zipped up and, if you can, laid flat with the padded side up.<\/li><li><strong>Watch what goes on top.<\/strong> Upholstery marks under anything heavy left on it for 20 minutes. Put the table on top of everything else, or upright against the seat back.<\/li><li><strong>Summer:<\/strong> vinyl at 60 \u00b0C inside a car softens and marks. Light-coloured bag, or a blanket over it if it\u2019s going to sit in the sun for hours.<\/li><\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Stairs with no lift<\/h2><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Wheels don\u2019t climb stairs. Take the side grips and carry it up, table held close to your body, not swinging.<\/li><li>If it\u2019s more than two floors, consider using the bag without wheels that day: 2 kg less.<\/li><li>Go up with the legs end facing down: if it slips, it lands on the frame, not the upholstery.<\/li><\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Public transport<\/h2><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Wheeled bag, no argument. Platforms, corridors, ramps: that\u2019s where it earns its money.<\/li><li>Ticket barriers are the enemy: use the wide gate.<\/li><li>On the bus, between your legs or in the wheelchair space if it\u2019s free.<\/li><\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Hotels<\/h2><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Walk in through the main entrance with the bag closed. Reception notices: a clean black bag is a professional; a table wrapped in a blanket is a problem.<\/li><li>Ask for the service lift if the guest one is small. Most hotels have one and would rather you used it.<\/li><li>Leave the bag in the room hallway, not the bathroom (damp).<\/li><\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. What wrecks tables without you noticing<\/h2><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Dragging it without a bag<\/strong> across the car park floor: the legs get scratched and grit gets into the folding mechanism.<\/li><li><strong>Storing it wet.<\/strong> Even just from rain. Upholstery doesn\u2019t forgive it.<\/li><li><strong>Folding it with the headrest on.<\/strong> It bends the mounting.<\/li><li><strong>Carrying it by the table\u2019s own strap<\/strong> instead of by the bag: factory straps don\u2019t last a year.<\/li><\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Your back<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Swap shoulders each trip. Adjust the strap so the bag sits at hip height, not swinging at your knee.
